Descripción

El trigo sarraceno, o alforfón común, es una planta con flores de la familia Polygonaceae, cultivada por sus semillas, que parecen granos, y como cultivo de cobertura. El trigo sarraceno se originó alrededor del sexto milenio a. C. en la región de lo que hoy es la provincia de Yunnan, en el suroeste de China.

Las hojas de trigo sarraceno (y también las flores) son totalmente comestibles y sabrosas. Póngalas en ensaladas y batidos. Si se les forman semillas, también puede cocinarlas. La harina de trigo sarraceno oscura se puede utilizar para hornear panqueques holandeses tradicionales.
