La pimienta de cayena es un tipo de Capsicum annuum. Se trata de un chile picante que se utiliza habitualmente para dar sabor a los platos. Las pimientas de cayena son un grupo de pimientos cónicos de entre 10 y 25 cm de largo, generalmente delgados, de color rojo en su mayoría, a menudo con una punta curva y una piel algo ondulada, que cuelgan del arbusto en lugar de crecer erguidos. La mayoría de las variedades se califican generalmente con entre 30.000 y 50.000 unidades Scoville.
