Brussels Sprouts 'Long Island' (commonly known as Long Island Improved or Catskill) is a historic 1890s open-pollinated American heirloom prized for its heavy yields, semi-dwarf stature, and exceptional cold hardiness. Growing into sturdy, compact stalks reaching 20 to 24 inches in height, it produces 50 to 100 tight, 1- to 1.5-inch dark green "miniature cabbages" clustered closely along its central stem. Because of its compact frame, it holds up remarkably well against strong late-season winds and heavy autumn snow without requiring extensive staking.
