Description
Pole Bean Scarlet Runner (Phaseolus coccineus) is a centuries-old heirloom classic first documented in the early 1600s, celebrated for its stunning dual-purpose beauty. Producing vigorous, climbing vines that rapidly reach 8 to 12 feet in height, it is adorned with clusters of vibrant, fiery scarlet-red flowers that serve as a major magnet for hummingbirds and bees. Following the spectacular floral display, it yields abundant crops of long, tender green pods that can be harvested young as snap beans, shelled fresh, or allowed to dry for striking, dark purple-and-black mottled dry beans. A garden classic that seamlessly combines high ornamental value with productive culinary yields.
