    Description

Tomato Amish Paste (Solanum lycopersicum) is a legendary 19th-century heirloom variety originally preserved by Wisconsin Amish communities. Renowned for its exceptionally large, heart-to-plum-shaped fruits weighing up to 8–12 ounces, it combines the meaty texture of a paste tomato with the rich, sweet flavor of a fresh slicer. Featuring thick, solid flesh with very few seeds and low moisture content, it yields outstandingly rich, sweet tomato paste, canning sauces, fresh salsas, and thick slices for sandwiches.

    Good to know
    • Significantly larger and sweeter than standard paste tomatoes, doubling as a fantastic fresh slicer
    • Dense, meaty flesh cooks down rapidly into thick, rich sauces and purées with minimal reduction time
    • Indeterminate vines yield a continuous, high-volume harvest right up until the first autumn frost
    • Heavy, tall vining growth requires strong physical support, tall cages, or sturdy staking
    • High fruit weight makes plants sensitive to calcium fluctuations, requiring consistent watering to avoid blossom end rot
