    Description

Tomato 'San Marzano' (Solanum lycopersicum) is the quintessential open-pollinated Italian heirloom plum tomato, celebrated globally as the ultimate paste, sauce, and canning variety. Originating near Naples, Italy, this indeterminate vine produces heavy clusters of elongated, cylindrical fruits 3 to 4 inches long with a distinct pointed tip. The deep red fruits feature thick flesh, minimal seed cavities, thin skins, and exceptionally low acidity, producing a rich, sweet, concentrated tomato flavor when cooked. Highly prized by chefs and home preservers, San Marzano is an essential centerpiece for authentic marinara, pizza sauces, and whole-canned harvests.
