Description

Good to know
  • Essential host plant for Monarch butterfly eggs and caterpillars, and an exceptional nectar source for bees and butterflies
  • Outstanding drought and heat resilience once established, thriving in lean, dry, poor soils where other flowers struggle
  • Vibrant, clear orange flowers provide a rare and intense warm color accent in sunny summer borders
  • Deep, fleshy taproot makes mature plants difficult to move or transplant once established in the garden
  • Slow to emerge in spring—plants remain dormant late into spring before sending up new green shoots once soil thoroughly warms
