Tithonia rotundifolia. Les graines de la torche mexicaine produisent des fleurs orange extrêmement brillantes au sommet de plantes massives qui poussent jusqu'à 1,8 m (6') en quelques mois seulement. La torche mexicaine ne produit pas de fleurs comestibles et n'est pas un véritable tournesol. Cultivées dans de grands contenants (3 à 5 gallons minimum), les plantes resteront plus compactes, atteignant seulement 60 cm (24") de hauteur. La torche mexicaine est très attrayante pour les pollinisateurs, y compris les colibris, et est superbe lorsqu'elle est plantée en grosses touffes ou en rangées. Les graines sont faciles à récolter et à sécher pour une plantation ultérieure, et les tiges massives des plantes peuvent être utilisées pour palisser des pois ou des haricots à rames l'année suivante. La torche mexicaine a remporté un prix AAS en 1951.
